Leaking at the seam of the tank on 4th batch of wine

- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019Just as described. Not a heavy steel so it will definitely not work for a kettle unless you're adding a heating element to it. I believe it could make a very good electric kettle. Interesting idea: it could be a single electric kettle for BIB and fermenter all in one. I wonder if the wall would be strong enough to support the heating element.
Finally got the weldless fitting and other parts to use the fermenter. It's working great. It has a good seal on the lid. It was easy to clean and sanitize.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2017This is a great value for a 14 gallon stainless fermenter. My only complaint is that is extremely heavy when full, so don't try to move it yourself - obviously not the fault of the fermenter. The handles are strong and nice. I'm not sure why someone else would give this 2 stars because there is not enough headroom for a 12 gallon batch. There certainly is, depending on the type of beer you are brewing. Yes, a high-gravity beer fermenting at 75 degrees will probably blow the airlock, so use a blow off tube like anyone with common sense. The fermenter is 14 gallons, brew wisely.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 1, 2017Very pleased with this fermenter, the quality is much better than I was expecting. The lid has a silicone gasket and is held in place by 4 very large and heavy duty clamps. The lid is slightly domed and is very solid, which leads me to my one single annoyance and that is the size of the port they chose to put in the lid. The port measures a bit over 13/4", if it where a bit smaller it would be possible to use a bulkhead fitting to equip a blow off tube but as it is, the only solution I have found is to use a #10 stopper drilled to fit the hose. Too bad that's going to cost them one star, because other than that this truly is a five star product. I have been making 10 gallon batches for a couple of years now and fermenting in 5 gallon buckets, so his will be a huge upgrade. I chose to purchase the portless model along with this Eagle FE800V Brew Bucket, Replacement Valve and Racking Arm, as the ball valve option didn't seem to be the best option for a fermenter. Using a step bit to drill a 5/8" hole, this valve with racking arm fits great. I am really looking forward to getting a batch of beer into this thing.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2020I don't know if the new ones only have 4 clamps, but mine has 5. I think I'd still buy one with 4, but just make sure I had some small C-clamps to provide some extra closing force. Excellent value for a LARGE stainless steel fermenter!! Only issue I had was they shipped the airlock in the box on the outside of the fermemter, which caused it to get cracked by the hugeness of it. I think it'll still work, and I have others, so I'm not that worried about it. Should be shipped on the inside of the fermenter though.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021Best fermenter on this price range. No more 2 carboys per batch. After fermentation the yeast bed just pours out. We have 2 of these vessels. Thinking about a third. Just for lagering purposes.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2022Seriously already leaking at the now opening welded seam. Junk.
Would be willing to revise review if seller or company comes up with a reasonable solution.
Update: Solution was to pay for jb weld to patch exterior of tank. I believe these vessels would be okay for wine brewing without a valve. Steel is way to thin to handle a valve and believe this is why mine cracked.
*Update*
Chapman contacted me and are currently offering a refund for the fermenter and money for JB weld to fix the current leaking. I will update again when the money is in my account.
